2. If you want a good laugh, read the full article. What a ridiculous assessment. I'm to think that Podcasting is bad because it might use bandwidth and be used for hate messages?? So books, video, blogs, and Web pages should similarly be shunned?

3. OK, so I had to wonder about this blog missing any type of posting about the RSS tie-in to the Presidential debates, but whatever.

Now to read this post makes it clear the the author(s) lack a true understanding of what blogging and RSS are all about.

Those "wild rantings" aren't what makes RSS/Blogs/Podcasting horrible... it's what makes them great. It is truly citizen media... and it doesn't have to be "good" or "professional" or appealing to YOU in order to be worthwhile.

5. A couple years ago I tried getting an audio messageboard off the ground with a passionate, dedicated online community. The launch was something that people thought was "cool" and a dozen other pleasantries posted on the board, but very few of them used the audio. The most common excuse: "I don't have a microphone."

Ultimately the audio zone as we had coined it became the dead zone.

So I'm excited about audio, you bet I am, podcasting is getting me jazzed indeed, BUT -- and it's a huge BUT -- I'm not expecting it to be anything as popular as RSS ever was, although it is surely encouraging to see local news station KOMO popdcasting.

I see this as another distribution opportunity for the audio work I'm doing. If other audio publishers feel the same and embrace podcasting then a year from now we won't be talking about another addition to the dead zone.

Seems to me the real interesting thing about Podcasting is that you can have audio (whatever kind...music, spoken word etc) automagically delivered to your iPod (or whatever potable audio device you use)...for example I have been enjoying Adam Curry's daily rant during my morning commute to work. I don't have to sit down and download it or anything...the iPodder software does all that in the background during the night and in the morning I just sync my iPod and go and the latest show is ready and waiting.

The innovation is in the seemless delivery...the audio itself is not revolutionary...I mean people have been producing audio online forever, only now the bridge to the mobile audio device is seemless.

I don't actually expect that podcasting will take off in a huge way with bloggers until Audioblogger et al take off big time, because the production is otherwise a barrier...

What I do expect is that radio stations and other audio content producers will pick up podcasting as a great distribution mechanism. eg. why can't I subscribe to a podcast from my favorite indi music label where they deliver me a new demo track daily from their roster of new bands...that would be cool. Or why can't I subscribe to a podcast of my favorite weekly reggae show hosted by a great little radio station in New Zealand but not broadcast in Australia...that would be cool.

Anyway, I reckon to see wherein lies the beauty of podcasting you should not think about it as another way to blog, but rather think about it as a great audio delivery mechanism and think about what it could do for audio content producers. And of course in about 12-24 months when we've all got video capable devices it will be a distribution channel for moving pictures...

7. The iPodder type functionality needs to be built into all the popular news aggregators...We shouldn't have to install more software to manage RSS with enclosures and have the content automatically added to iTunes (or whatever software).
